Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you know that Goodyear residents are celebrating a multi-year’s effort to bring Trader Joe’s to town—and we all benefit! But first, have you heard the rumors of an upcoming announcement of Whole Foods joining the ever-growing list of really cool tenants coming to GSQ? We hear that current Whole Foods employees at other Phoenix locations have been invited to apply for employment in Goodyear. Let’s hope that, in this case, rumors do come true!
What we do know for sure is that Goodyear is gearing up for a major retail and dining upgrade with their official announcement that Trader Joe’s will open its first location in the city. The highly anticipated grocer will anchor a new phase of GSQ, the city’s mixed-use cultural hub, developed by RED Development and Globe Corp. The store will occupy a 13,500-square-foot space, offering its signature blend of eclectic grocery items and neighborly charm.
Two additional tenants were also revealed as part of the GSQ expansion. Black Rock Coffee Bar, a 1,460-square-foot drive-thru coffee shop, will offer its signature drinks and community-focused atmosphere starting in 2026. Nearby, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill will open a standalone 5,658-square-foot restaurant featuring bold American cuisine, steaks, seafood, and a 700-square-foot outdoor patio for open-air dining.
RED Development’s managing partner, Mike Ebert, praised the project’s momentum, stating that securing Trader Joe’s highlights the strength of the local market and Goodyear’s appeal as a growth destination. Mayor Joe Pizzillo echoed the sentiment, calling the development a “milestone” that reflects the city’s growing allure to national retailers and restaurateurs.
GSQ is transforming into a vibrant urban core that mixes specialty retail, residential options, hotel accommodations, and entertainment experiences—and just minutes away from Verrado. Once the Buckeye Commons & Verrado Marketplace projects are completed, along with GSQ, perhaps there will be no reason to drive east of Bullard any longer?
